Why the DVD Burning Kiosk May Be the Next Big Thing Home
You know all about the DVD rental kiosks that have been showing up in all
the grocery stores, convenience stores and big box chain stores, but have
you heard about the latest revolution? The DVD burning kiosk is getting
people talking. Its capabilities will outshine all the other alternatives
for getting DVDs. The DVD burning kiosks will be located in stores similar
to the current rental machines. No companies have set firm prices for the
videos from these new kiosks, but they are expected to be in line with
current rental fees.
So, what is all the buzz about? Well, the average rental kiosk today can
hold about one to two hundred DVDs. There is a limit on the number of
transactions one of these kiosks can handle in a single day. If DVDs are not
returned quickly, the kiosk will not be able to make additional rentals.
This is the downside of the current technology. With a DVD burning kiosk,
the number of DVDs that can be processed is increased tremendously.
The idea with a DVD burning kiosk is that the machine will be able to store
thousands of new and old movies in digital form. The customer will browse
the selections on screen at the kiosk. After choosing one of the movies, the
kiosk will instantly burn the video to a DVD. The DVDs from this type of
machine will be time stamped, meaning that the customer will only have a
certain number of viewings or hours to view the DVD before it will be
unreadable. Manufacturers are designing machines that will also recycle the
used DVDs when the customer has finished viewing the movie.
The video might take a bit longer to get than the traditional rental at a
kiosk, but with the expanded selection, it is a good bet that customers will
be willing to wait a few minutes for the DVD burning kiosk to create the
DVD. Since this technology has not been widely tested in many locations,
there are questions still to be answered. The cost of the producing reliable
equipment might be the biggest concern. However, once the technology has
been perfected, these machines have the potential to be much smaller and
more cost effective than the current DVD kiosks. Investors should be able to
see a return on the investment in a short period of time, making the DVD
burning kiosks the next big profit makers.
